Semi-detached house in London

The slim sightlines of AluK’s 58BW windows were key to some homeowners choosing the system as part of the refurbishment of their substantial detached property in Beckenham, South East London.

Powder coated in black with integral astragal bars, the 58BW chamfered profile windows suited the exterior of the mid-century style of the property perfectly. However, the 43mm sightlines and the fact that they could be powder coated white on the inside meant the owners could also achieve the modern, light and airy feel they wanted for the interior.

The new double-glazed windows were fabricated by Arkay, based in Watford, and installed by long established local installer Window Express. Window Express won the contract via its many recommendations on Checkatrade and its outstanding reputation in the Bromley and Beckenham area.

Elliott Erkan from Window Express, explained that the owners came to him with a brief to replace their existing PVC-U frames with aluminium. They wanted slim sightlines with improved energy performance and better security. They were impressed when they saw the sample of the AluK 58BW system and liked the fact that they could view several local installations of the windows in the AluK system by Windows Express in a range of colours and styles.

Elliott presented several different digital visualisations of the property showing a range of window configurations, but the owners eventually chose to keep the original window layout and instead install a new porch roof to update the exterior look.

The AluK 58BW system is available in both 58 and 70mm depths and in casement, tilt and turn, and fully reversible options. There are also flush sash and steel replacement versions to suit any style or age or property, and a new enhanced thermal performance HI specification which easily meet the requirements of the new Building Regs Part L.

A family-run business, Window Express has been installing AluK windows, bifolds and sliding doors for much of its 21-year history.

A semi-detached house in the busy city of London.

After working with our team, the customer chose 58BW ST steel replacement windows in a striking jet-black finish, as well as a triple-track BSC94 inline sliding door.

The 58BW ST window provides the look and feel of traditional steel windows, but with the warmth and security that an aluminium frame offers.

We then liaised with two of our trusted specialists – 1st Scenic to install the products and Alu-tec to fabricate them.

For the refurbishment of this property, aluminium windows were used to create two large bays at the front of the house and a dormer in the rear.

1st Scenic installed the inline sliding door across the ground floor extension. This helped to maximise light and let the homeowner see the beautiful garden from any vantage point
