Slim sightlines give a light and airy feel

The slim sightlines of AluK’s 58BW windows were key to some homeowners choosing the system as part of the refurbishment of their substantial detached property in Beckenham, South East London.

They might not see snow in Berkshire this Christmas, but one stunning property in Sandhurst will feature in its own festive scene no matter what.

The owners wanted to replace their existing timber windows with something that suited the character of the property, but with a touch of contemporary design elegance. They chose AluK’s 58BW Flush aluminium frames, with an ultra slim 45mm sightline on the sash and 24mm on the frame, primarily because of the aesthetics, but also because of their maintenance-free feature.

In creating their dream home, the owners wanted to reduce the width of the sightlines and increase the glazed area to allow more daylight into their property. Originally designed with PVC-U windows and doors, the homeowners felt the need to upgrade and use a more sustainable material – aluminium.

COASTAL HOME REFURBISHMENT

The large expanses of glass meant the thermal efficiency of the AluK windows and doors was paramount to ensure that the house could comply with Building Regulations. Double glazed, the BRE Green Guide A-rated 58BW windows and BSF70 bifold doors achieved U-values of 1.4W/m2K. These products enabled the owners to achieve a modern look and feel, and optimise the light coming into the house and garden room, making the most of their view.

BARN STYLE HOUSE WITH CONTEMPORARY LOOK

Originally designed with PVC-U windows and doors, the homeowners felt the need to upgrade and use a more sustainable material – aluminium. To retain as much of the traditional and original look of any barn or barn style house, slim frame aluminium windows are strongly recommended for a modern yet sympathetic upgrade.

The artist behind @snowwindows has recreated the exterior of the renovated house in all its ‘snowy glory’ in the three giant AluK 58BW windows which frame the first floor landing.

The property started life as a bungalow but, over the past 18 months, has been transformed into a two-storey home, with the journey from small to spectacular being documented on Instagram (@tardis_bungalow_renovation).
